This exhibition works like web, knitting together several distinct notes (in the form of unique works) that explore the function and interpretation of signs through metaphor. However, these signs don't necessarily carry information, they are clues that reference their own role as things to be transferred as much as they are things of pure gesture : as art is to be received. These moments that move throughout the space tumble like dominoes, stringing together and then splintering a symbology of acts of deciphering and transmitting. Utilizing elements that speak of carrying and covering such as shells, moss, foam, fabric and plastic tarps, the materiality intends to evoke feelings and notions of vulnerability, protection, dissimulation and assimilation.
Incorporating storied works that speak of group submission- a short film based on a scene from the essay "About a Mountain" by John D'Agata and a quilt, "The Guide(Underground Railroad)," that tells the story of group rebellion, the space contains a message that walks along the subtle divide between self and society. Relating the concept of the 'sign as carrier' to the idea of 'meaning as migratory,' an underlying theme connecting territory with selfhood arises. All together the exhibition is a (complicated) venture confronting a more global concern of the responsibility involved in handling information and thus when or how to take initiative as an individual within a greater network, and what that initiative (act) means depending on your identity (or rather how your person(a) is read) within the society and territory where it's performed.

En fréquentant des lieux de diffusion de messages sociaux, éducatifs, moraux, conventionnels (comme une salle de classe par exemple), "l'apprenant" est amené à prendre la position d’un croyant (celle du bon ou du mauvais) par rapport aux informations qu'on lui transmet.
Dans le cadre de mes installations, l’espace d'exposition propose d'interroger cette transmission de sens où le regardeur peut reconsidérer la place et le pouvoir de son interprétation.
Dans mes travaux récents, j'incorpore des éléments comme le coquillage, des mains, des supports pedagogiques ou la mousse (naturelle ou synthétique) qui évoquent à la fois les notions de vulnérabilité, de protection, assimilation et de dissimulation. J’utilise souvent des textiles pour leur flexibilité et leur texture ainsi que pour leur propension à couvrir et camoufler les corps ou les objets.
Ces éléments sont intrigants, comme une porte ouvrant vers un lieu secret ou inconnu, ils provoquent une expérience de l'ignorance et apparaîssent en un sens comme un écran de projection. Celui qui ne peut voir imagine.
Représentés par une image, un objet, une vidéo, une performance et porteurs d'un sens caché, ces éléments deviennent symboles.
En prenant en compte la frustration que provoque l'écart entre la transmission et l'interprétation des informations, j'interroge la sensation de "confort" que l'on recherche dans la compréhension des signes. Par mes installations, je tente de recréer cette sensation, un espace de "tranquilité" où le regardeur fait appel à sa faculté d'imaginer.
